
Cherrybrook, NSW is located 27 km north-west from the Sydney central business district in the Hornsby Shire local governemnt area. Cherrybrook is found in Sydney’s Hills District.
Joseph Harrison, who married Mary Ann Thompson in 1839, established a block on the site, planted orchards, and built a small timber cottage that they called “Cherrybrook Cottage”. Cherry trees were grown near their property’s creek. This is what gave the name Cherrybrook to the suburb. Mary Russell was granted their 65-acre (260,000m2) block in 1820. It became “Cherrybrook Farm”. Here were orchards of peaches, pears and plums as well as citrus fruits. Eric Vaux purchased the property many years later and established a dairy. The name Cherrybrook was retained.
The land was divided to create the first project-home village in Sydney in February 1959. Bulldozing the original bushland was completed, and then exhibition homes were built on cut-and-fill sites. The landscapes were later created. In the 1990s, Cherrybrook Post Office was opened.
Many streets in Cherrybrook are named after trees, native plants, historical figures, landowners, or convicts. Cherrybrook was sub-divided in 1959. The developers used colonial architects to name some streets. Cherrybrook was not home to any of the colonial surveyors or architects.
Cherrybrook is served by Hillsbus bus routes that link to Sydney CBD. Cherrybrook railway station is located on the Metro North West Line, which opened on 26 May 2019.
Mirvac owns Cherrybrook Village Shopping Centre, a single-level neighbourhood shopping center that houses Woolworths. It was opened in 1989, and it was renovated in 2004. Appletree Shops is a smaller shopping center.
Cherrybrook is served by several educational institutions including Cherrybrook Nursery and Preschool and ABC Developmental Learning Centre, Kindalin Early Childhood Learning Centre and Cherrybrook Community Pre-School. Cherrybrook Technology High School, (CTHS), is the largest secondary school in the state. It has over 2000 students and continues to grow.
Greenway Park, which features an Indoor Heated Swimming Pool, a Dog Park, and The Lakes of Cherrybrook, Edward Bennett Oval, (Soccer and Cricket), Thomas Thompson Park, (Tennis and Soccer, Cricket), and many other parks are all recreation areas.
Cherrybrook has many walking and fire trails, which are part of the Berowra Bushland Reserve. This includes the Callicoma Walk. Cherrybrook is home to a large Baseball community, with more than 500 members playing for the Greenway Giants Baseball Club.
